Common Applications

We use twisted brushes for both manual cleaning or use in power tools. Industries and companies that commonly use our brushes include industrial, automotive, aircraft, electronic manufacturers, and metal workers. Clean, polish, ream, finish, and remove debris or burrs from internal non-metallic and metallic surfaces.

Custom Design | Wire Brushes

There are countless types of wire brushes, each made differently depending on their purpose. The basis, though, is that wire brushes are made by placing bristle material between the stem wires. Then, we secure the filament by tightly twisting the stem wires.

Brookfield manufactures custom wire specifications. To design a superior brush, there are four main considerations. These include stem design, material, length, and diameter.

Choosing your specifications depends on the flexibility, stiffness, and corrosion resistance necessary. Count on Brookfield Wire to recommend the right materials for your application.

Bristle and Fill Options

Our recommendation for wire fill materials for brushes also depends on application requirements including flexibility, stiffness, abrasion, and chemical or corrosion resistance. Additionally, bristle crimping styles include gear crimping, pin crimping, and straight hank. Crimping, or wavy, bristles extend brush life and are ideal for abrasive cleaning. On the other hand, straight bristles are softer and offer more flexibility.

Specific uses include:

  • Cleaning internal tubes, pipes, and cylinders

  • Cleaning medical devices and lab equipment

  • Removing gases during vacuum distillation process

  • Cleaning hydraulic fittings and nozzles

  • Plastics manufacturing

  • Slug removal

  • And much, much more.

Stem Design

Talk to the Brookfield Wire experts about our three main stem designs to determine the top benefits of each style.

  • Single-Spiral Single-Stem: We twist your choice of filament between two stem wires with a single layer of filament.

  • Single-Spiral Double-Stem: We twist your choice of filament between four stem wires with two stem wires on each side. As a result, there’s a stronger base and a greater filament density.

  • Double-Spiral Double-Stem: We twist two layers of the chose fill bristles between four stem wires. The layers are perpendicular with a single stem wire in each quadrant, resulting in a brush with the highest strength and filament density.

Standard Bristle Materials

  • Carbon Steel

  • Non-Ferrous

  • Stainless Steel

  • Synthetic Fibers

  • Animal Fibers

  • Vegetable Fibers

Custom Fills

  • Non-Ferrous Wire: Options include aluminum, copper, phosphor bronze brass, nickel, and silver.

  • Brass Wire Brushes: Rust-proof and spark resistant, brass offers delicate brushing action.

  • Phosphor Bronze Wire Brushes: Similar to brass but with better shape retention.

  • Carbon Steel Wire Brushes: Useful in dry environments where abrasion is required. Whereas high carbon is used for deep cutting where aggressive abrasion is required.

  • Stainless Steel Wire Brushes: Rust-proof, durable, and ideal for applications that involve stainless steel or aluminum. The bonus? It won’t leave ferrous deposits.

  • Oil Tempered Wire (Flat Wire) Brushes: Flat wire is the most aggressive brushing material available.

Length and Diameter

An extensive lineup of brush diameters are available. However, the diameter depends heavily on the stem design and filament being used. The shorter the trim-length or larger the bristle diameter, the stiffer the brush.

As you would assume, the size and length are determined by your particular requirements.

  • Gauge #

  • Wire Diameter

  • Single Stem Twisted Diameter

  • Double Stem Twisted Diameter
