What is Monel Wire?
Monel is a nickel-copper alloy, often containing small amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. Renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance and strength across a wide temperature range, Monel is ideal for demanding applications in marine environments, chemical processing, aerospace, and the oil and gas industries. Monel wire, in particular, is valued for its durability and performance in electrical components, resistance welding, and safety wire applications.
The origins of Monel date back to 1905, when metallurgist Robert Crooks Stanley developed the alloy while working for the International Nickel Company (Inco). Named after Inco’s president, Ambrose Monell, the final ‘L’ was omitted to comply with trademark regulations. Officially patented in 1906, Monel quickly became synonymous with durability and corrosion resistance.
